Blog Roundup: Announcement Day

The blogosphere reacts to Hillary's candidacy:

Jerome Armstrong at MyDD offers a thoughtful analysis-

The website has the clean, Kerry-2004 look about it. A smart "write our first post" call to action on the website. The announcement of "an unprecedented series of video webcasts beginning Monday, January 22nd at 7pm EST for three nights" creates a quick narrative of interaction and response around Bush's SOTU address. It'll be interesting to see if she gets a bump in the national and early state polls.

Trapper John at DailyKos offers the obligatory Hillary attack-

I can't imagine why one would announce on a Saturday, but Hillary Clinton has officially launched an exploratory committee. Not a surprise, and barely "news," but in the interest of equal time, here's her statement

Clearly Trapper John's imagination doesn't get cable because every network is All HRC, All the time. She roadblocked every cable news network! I'm glad that "in the interest of equal time" John offered up his criticism.

Hotline OnCall Discovers Sen. Clinton's Contribution Maximum is $4,200 making her the first candidate to opt out of general election public financing.

Because the limit on individual contributions is $2100 per election, it means that Clinton is raising money for two accounts -- her primary account and a general election account.

In other words -- Clinton becomes the first candidate to officially acknowledge that she won't accept federal matching funds for either the primary and the general election.

From the start of the video, Clinton emphasizes that she wants to take part in a discussion with the American people. "I'm not just starting a campaign though, I'm beginning a conversation with you, with America," she says. "Because we all need to be part of the discussion if we are all going to be part of the solution."

To that end, Clinton says she plans to hold "online video chats" beginning Monday to create a dialogue with the American people.

Sound familiar? It should. It's the same blueprint Clinton used in 2000 when she was preparing to run for the New York Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D).
